Lanzarote: The Place to Be for your Holidays
Lanzarote is a perfect place for a holiday. The fourth largest island in the Canary Island archipelago, this island
is a study is contrasts. A large portion of the island is covered in hardened volcanic lava giving it an otherworldly appearance. The rest of the island is just plain beautiful. Unique vineyards grown using the traditional Canary Island style of agriculture draw millions of people. They are fascinated by the 5 meter deep pits surrounded by low brick walls designed to capture rainwater and dew and protect the plants from the wind. |
Beaches with gold, white or black sands surround picturesque bays and coves where waves range from tiny
and tame to huge and ferocious and surfers gain international fame by taming them. The island was named after Lancelotto Malocello, a Genoese navigator and explorer who was one of the first Europeans to visit the island in modern times. The natives called the island Titerrogatra or island of the red mountains.
Today those mountains are to be found in Timanfaya National Park, the most visited place on the island. The park is the location of the famed Tunnels of Atlantis, the largest submerged volcanic tunnel on the planet |
The Canary Islands are situated off the coast of northwest Africa, about 1,000 kilometers from the Iberian Peninsula. The islands are a colony of Spain and each year millions of Spaniards take cheap Lanzarote holidays that give them the opportunity to experience the adventures the island is known for. Birding, trekking, watersports and relaxing on the island's many beaches like Playa la Cantera, Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen, Papagayo &d Famana is enough excitement for some. Others make the trek to the island of Gran Canaria for even more fun |
When you take Gran Canaria holidays you have access to a whole world of exciting activities. Gran Canaria is called the 'little continent' because of the wide range of weather conditions found on the island. There is the cool rainy north coast, the warm, sunny southern end, the rocky west coast with its numerous fissure vents and the calm, pretty beaches on the east coast. Once there they can visit the lighthouse in Maspalomas, the beautiful Jardin Canario and numerous nature preserves, monuments and national parks. But what draws many to have Gran Canaria holidays is the fabulous las Canteras beach and the wild Carnival in las Palmas de Grand Canaria |
